Hi! I would just like to say how much I enjoy your comic and the intricate story and subplots you have created! The characters are a joy and I love it when I open my e-mail inbox to see a “Waiting for Frodo update”! I’ve told everyone I know about it and sing the song constantly. But what I’d really like to say is how much I love how you also add in little tidbits from other shows. ie the Trekkie, Star Wars, the “save farscape” sign, etc. It’s hilarious to know that I’m not the only one liking all of those things! Keep up the awesome work, please! And of course….ONLY 6 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!!!!!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!!!!

Thanks again for all the humor; it helped pass the weeks. My friends
and I have our tickets as well. Enjoy!

I just discovered the Waiting For Frodo website, and the link to Urban Tapestry. I’m sure you’ve received many compliments, but I wanted to add mine. Wonderful song, and I really enjoy the way your voices blend so nicely. You can count on me to buy one of your CDs.

Well done!

Fuzzy (who is also Waiting For Frodo… even my wife is excited!)

Hi Debbie: I see you have your tickets for TTT. I know you are going to love it. I had the very good fortune of being invited to a press screening in Birmingham Michigan on the 4th of December. The movie just blew me away!!! One thing I can almost guarantee is that you will be simply amazed at Gollum’s performance in the movie. Mr. Jackson and WETA have just raised the bar to a lofty height as far as CGI characters are concerned. I think Mr. Lucas could learn a thing ot two from them!!

Enjoy the movie,
Guy

Got my tickets too!! 8 days to go.

Hello, I just wanted to say that I really love your Waiting for Frodo song, (I annoy all my friends by singing it all the time!) and comic strip. It never fails to make me laugh! Keep it up! I hope that someday I’ll find a Waiting for Frodo comic strip book on the shelves of my local bookstore! ;-)

Absolutely love the comic! Reminds me so much of my friends and me.
Can’t wait to see more!

it is so funny! i think it’s great that your bringing other movies into it too. my favorit is the one where eric stays at the ROM exibit impersonating an ent. pure gold. i also wanted to know if you had a links page, because i have a small website, and i would like it if you could link to it, because i’m definatly adding waitingforfrodo to my links. i’m also wanted to ask if you were bading the comic in toronto, because i noticed that one of them has snow in the bacground and you refer to the ROM. if i’m wrong (which is very likely, because i’m slow), please tell me where Rosie and Sam live (other than in line). thank you for your time!

Hello Debbie!

If I haven’t told you before (my memory is like a steel strainer) I really enjoy your strip, and I’m glad you’re carrying on with it!
Would you consider, after the box set of the extended version of all three films comes out–

[Welcome to my fantasy.......!]

–would you consider publishing your entire strip in book form?

best, Kate K.

I just stumbled upon your comic (from theonering.net or tolkienonline.com, one of the two) and it is amazing! Why I like it so much is hard to say, maybe it is because I really can relate. I’ve watched the DVD every day since August 6th, I’ve read the book (or books) more times than I can count.Ê

Soloclin

P.S. I still can’t get over the fact that Sam broke up with Galadriel-er, Gladys.Ê

Dear Debbie,

I love you comic and hope you keep writing it as long as you can! I am, as “they” term, a LOTR convert. I didn’t love LOTR until I read the book two weeks before the Fellowship was released, now I can’t get enough of it! Your comic shows that there are many different ways to get your feelings known. Anyway, I’m counting the days to when each movie releases and reading your comic makes “Waiting For Frodo” a lot easier!

sincerely,
Megan D.

It was nice that you did a strip about Richard Harris.

Keep up the good work.

Aug. 27/2002

Hi! I JUST discovered your comics (waiting for frodo) and they are so
cool! I think you’re really cool too! Your website’s a bit hard to
navigate though, and it seems like there’s more than one website!

You know what, I used to be a Star Trek fan too before LOTR:FOTR came
out. That totally blew me away.

I guess there’s just not enough room in my already crowded brain for
TWO obsessions. It’s amazing that you can keep so much stuff in your
head! It’s weird, cos I never thought a star trek fan could be a LOTR
fan as well, and the feedback I got from a lot of other trekkies was
that LOTR sucked. Oh well, I guess you’ve proven that wrong!

Sorry for all the exclamation marks. But I think you’re cool and your
website’s cool and your husband sounds really cool too. (does that
sound corny?) Is he a LOTR fan too? I would love to have my own website
but I don’t have time cos I’ve got my EXAMS COMING UP!!! But it’s the
last year of high school so I’ll have plenty of time to check out other
cool stuff on the web like your website. I love people who make
personal websites without making it boring. And I REALLY love people
who actually know how to make a decent website before making one.

Do you like elves? How did you get to know those guys at weta? Does sam
exist? Where did you get your idea from? Do you like Legolas? (I’m not
going to ask you if you think he’s cute cos your husband might get
offended…) He would be my favourite character in LOTR if he actually
HAD a character, if you know what I mean. I always thought character
development was a bit lacking in LOTR, but oh well, you can’t please
everybody, and LOTR is truly a masterpiece, which only a genius like
Tolkien could have written of course. I like the way Boromir was played
in the movie though. He really seemed to develop as a character (upon
second viewing.) The other characters seemed a bit neglected though.

By the way, I’m 17, female and living in Australia (but Toronto sounds
really cool!) I’ve been to Canada but it was Vancouver, in winter, it
was really cold and we didn’t do much.

Well, I think I’ve blabbed on enough. Sorry if I’ve bored you, but
seriously, there is no one around here that shares my appreciation of
LOTR! They all think I’m an obsessed fangirl who needs therapy. They
either run away (more like try to sidle away), ignore me, or
surreptitiously change the subject whenever I try to start a nice,
clean, intellectual discussion with them. Unfortunately the only other
fangirl I know is now a Harry Potter convert. (I’m not there yet.) And
she only liked LOTR because of Legolas. Hmmf. I suppose *could* share
my ravings with other rabid fans on the net, but, like I said, I won’t
have time to have a netlife until after the dreaded exams.

I have read the books, all 3 (after I saw the movie though–I would
never have picked them up if it weren’t for Peter Jackson…) It took
me AGES, but I did it! I’m quite proud of myself actually. I’m amazed
how many people there are who still haven’t read the book. Now all
there remains for me to do is to read it again, and again, and again…

Wow, I just added another 2 paragraphs. I do go on, don’t I? I’d better
wrap it up now…

Well…*ahem*…Thanks for all the joy you’ve brought to the world of
LOTR fandom with your wonderful creativity! (does this sound weird
coming from a high school kid?) May your fanaticism? obsession? live
long and your website/comics/other creative outpourings prosper :)

That’s all for now.
Bye!
err…Hailing frequencies closed… (corny corny corny…) :P

– Silvya

PS. I was a Trek fan for 4 months before LOTR, which is a record
considering my average obsession lasted 2 weeks. But LOTR’s still
hanging in there though! I think it’s going to set a new record.

PPS. I still think Vulcans are cool though, in a weird way. My fave
character (was) Spock. Nothing to do with pointy ears though. Of course
not.

PPPS. why is your site called electric penguin?

Thanks to ElijahFan.com for mentioning

I’ve just gone to your strip via a link on TorN – what a cool series of comic strips! For all of us who are insane enough to get depressed just thinking about the length of time for TTT to come out your site is a tremendous morale boost! :) Keep the strip up, please!

Hi there!!

I suppose you get a lot of mails, nevertheless, I just had to let you know how much I love your comics!!
They are absolutly fantastic :D :D
We are a group of friends, being rather LOTR obsessed ourselves, so, these strips hit the point pretty good *lol*

Please continue your great work and thanks a lot for putting it online and giving everyone the chance of enjoying it !!

Dear Ms. Ohi,

My name is Mariel, and I’ve been reading ‘Waiting for Frodo’ for… months? Since before the movie came out at least. Anyway, I just today started to explore your site some more because I wanted to let you know – I love it! (You gave me a scare when you didn’t update for more than three months.) It is both entertaining and interesting, while still respecting LOTR – it seems many people these days feel they have to mock parts of the book to get a laugh.

But I now know more – you write as well! ^_^ So I shall certainly be looking into that, as well as listening to your music – while I’m there, why not?

I just wanted to thank you, and please keep up the good work!

cheers,
Mariel

Letter from Dr. Jill Cainey over recent Shane hubbub:

Dear Debbie,

He is cute, isn't he?! He's been cute for the last seven years or so!

Not that I want to dash Rosie's romantic hopes or aspirations to
get close to someone actually involved with LOTR, BUT HE'S MINE!

No, it's a great strip and we've really been enjoying it! The Cute
Weta Guy is getting a bit of a hard time at work and I'm giving him
a hard time about his legions of female admirers, but he's thrilled
with the attention all the same!

Anyway keep up the good work... we'll be off to the "wrap" party
tonight...

Letter from Rebecca at Weta Digital:

Your strip caused much hilarity in the office today (I sit next to
Shane, who mailed you a while ago). I thought that you might like a
photo of Shane with the rest of the crew. :-)

Sorry about the image quality. I was in a hurry and couldn't be bothered
cleaning the scanner. :-)

Cheers
-rebecca

-ps- Shane is the one at the right hand side of the photo in the yellow
shirt. I'm the girl in the black t-shirt at the front. Otherwise, on
top of the renderwall there's Tomek (at the front) and Ben (at the
back). Paul is standing next to me and Nik is sitting behind him.
James is looking very cool in his sunglasses and orange shirt, and Cam
is standing on a box behind him. Our team is bigger these days, but
this is the most recent photo. :-)

The Toronto Star

(Thanks to Allison Durno for telling me about this mention)

Excerpt from an article titled “Passing Time While Waiting For The Lord”:
(the guy’s mostly reviewing the Hobbit Name Simulator, but at the end of the article he says…)

“And if that doesn’t work: Try the Lord of The Rings board game
or read the brilliantly named online comic “Waiting For Frodo”
(www.waitingforfrodo.com) by Toronto’s Debbie Ridpath Ohi.”.

“WAITING FOR FRODO
Daily comic strip about a guy who gets in line 210 days early for

Thanks very much for all the kind letters about my comic strip. Here’s one from
Shane McEwan at Weta Digital (Weta Digital and
Weta Workshop were and are heavily
involved in the film production process):

G'day!

I just thought I'd let you know that us here at the coal-face are really
enjoying Waiting For Frodo!

Even though we're working on it we still can't wait for the movie to be
finished.

Not long to go now!
